Swim

In addition to the common meaning of propelling yourself through water, a swim is also what happens in kayaking or canoeing when the boat tips and the paddler is unable to roll the boat upright. The resulting maneouvre of extracting him/herself from the boat and coming back up to the surface is called a wet exit swimming. (And, by extention, the person in question is the swimmer.)

If you swim after tipping, and if it is safe to do so, try to grab hold of your paddle and/or boat (and any other gear you've dumped) to make the rescue and recovery easier. However, the swimmer's safety is always top priority.
