1% for the Planet is an organization that encourages businesses to donate funds to environmental causes. As the name suggests, participating businesses pledge to donate 1% of their sales, which are distributed to more than 1,500 environmental organizations around the world.

The organization began in 2002. As of December 2007, there were more than 805 participating businesses, including:

  • the Clif Bar company
  • Esprit Rafting Adventures Inc. of the Ottawa River
  • Sony Electronics (only for its VAIO Eco Edition)
  • Mountain Equipment Co-op
  • musician Jack Johnson.
