Snow time
martinis at Blue
Forgot to mention: last weekend after skiing, Teri and I popped into Twist, the martini bar in the "Village at Blue Mountain." Most of the people there clearly had skied, showered, changed and then come out for a few drinks. We, on the other hand, were fresh off the slopes, being the cheapskates who only got night skiing passes.
Anyway, not a bad spot at all. Pretty good selection of martinis, at Toronto prices (between $10 and $15). If you go in the main door, hang a right, go to the end and look left, there's a cute little table for four that could make for a romantic spot, or at least a semi-private foursome. On the wall right next to that is an LCD TV, too (you can't see it so much from the romantic nook, but you can from the other tables in that section). And they were showing the hockey game. So if part of your group wants something more than pizza, and another part wants to see the Leafs lose again (sigh), this is a pretty good option.
The only food we had was the chorizo appetizer -- spicy sausage in a wine sauce. Really quite good, especially as a tapas-style nibble to share over a drink.
As with anything that calls itself a martini bar, though, they're not above being pretentious. I picked up a card at the hostess station, that describes their bottle service:
Veuve Cliquot -- $130/btl
Belvedere & Chopin -- $180/btl
"served with your choice of juice and pop, and lemon and lime wedges" (ooh, how generous!)
And for the truly gauche: "Red Bull sold separately"
Belvedere and Red Bull? Oh, crap.
