Paddler's Guide to Happy Camping
This is Kevin Callan's blog about his trips, his (mis-)adventures, and his favourite gear.
My "How to Be a Happy Camper" College Course Finally Available.
I’m excited to announce that I am finally offering a camping course at the college I’ve taught part-time at for almost 20 years. Yes, it’s about time. This is something I’ve always wanted to do at the college but never quite found the time to organize. It’s titled “How to Be a Happy Camper” and the course is held through Sir Sandford Fleming’s Continuing Education Program. The date is Saturday, February 7. It’s an all day event, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and will cover topics such as: route planning, make up your own dehydrated meals, how to bake fresh bread in the bush, tying the perfect knot, choosing the right equipment, making home-made gear, keeping dry, lighting the perfect campfire, packing light, keeping good group dynamics, traveling solo, staying warm and healthy, essential map, compass and GPS skills, and weather forecasting. It’s held at the Brealey (Peterborough) Campus and the cost is $87.19.
It will be a great way to get excited (and organized) for your upcoming trips this year, not to mention a great way to fight the winter blahs.
