Free Porn...uhh...ski movies, I mean
Last March I was on a gear testing trip in Whistler when I met Jordan Judd, the marketing manager for Atomic USA. I was jealous of him and not just because he has a cool job, lives close to dry snow in Ogden, Utah, and his kid was skiing before mine (damn parental jealousy). Mostly, I was jealous because he was heading to Alaska shortly after his Whistler trip to do some heli-skiing.
As marketing director he was in charge of a new project in social media advertising - Atomic was going to give away a ski film on the internet. Part of the shoot would be from Alaska and Jordan was hopeful he'd get to lay some tracks in the famed heli-ski playground as well.
The movie is now out. It focuses on how skiing means different things to different people, hence the name Skiing is___. It follows different skiers, each with their own style, and explores what makes skiing a passion for each. It's a cool concept, but like many ski movies trying to get into the phychology of skiing the only deep thoughts are face shots. The ski footage is sweet though. Download it free any time you feel the need for some ski porn at atomicsnow.com/skiingis. Skiing is _. provides the good at a price that can't be beat.
Atomic's sister company, Salomon, is also heading into the internet media realm in a big way with a 20 episode internet TV series called Freeski TV. Hosted and directed by Mike Douglas, a veteran of the freeski/extreme skiing scene and creator of the first twin-tipped ski the Salomon Teneighty, the show has lots of promise. Episodes are a mix of travelogue and ski porn. Check out the second segment when a huge avalanche just about takes out a few of the stars of the show.
I'm keen to hear what you think of the internet TV and Atomic's movie. Is it wasted download time or does it fuel the fire?

Yea eh
