Go Media!
After four hours of delays I'm finally here – Quebec City for its 400th anniversary party. That's not the real reason I'm here, but it is a huge perk. I'm here for Go Media, a conference where the Canadian Tourism Commission brings writers and Canadian tourism organizations together to discuss story ideas. I'm here for explore to hunt down ideas for destinations for the magazine to cover in the next year.
The conference moves around every year and this year they planned it to coincide with the birthday celebration. On this day 400 years ago Samuel de Champlain arrived at Quebec City to start the first permanent European settlement north of Mexico. The party will go on all week and includes performances by Van Halen and Feist. I even saw Prime Minister Steven Harper this morning. He was at the hotel where I'm staying, the Chateau Frontenac, (you know the big fancy one with the amazing view overlooking the St. Lawrence River and steps from Vieux Quebec) for the birthday parade and luncheon. Man this is a tough job but someone has to do it.
I'll let you know how the rest of this week of work goes.
