Outdoor Retailer Stats
Although it was only my second Outdoor Retailer, the show felt busier this year. On paper it was equal to last year in attendance, but despite the dour economic climate, especially in the U.S. the mood was optimistic. The only fear that seams to be growing is how to get the next generation interested in the outdoors. Any ideas? Here are some numbers on the Salt Lake City Summer Market Outdoor Retailer Show:
$46 billion outdoor industry, 1020 exhibitors, more than 100 new exhibitors 438,000 square feet of exhibit space 22,000 people attending over four days, 6,300 of them retail buyers
Here are some of my own personal numbers:
of appointments: 58 to see more than 80 companies
hours spent inside the Salt Palace: 30 over 3.5 days miles walked: probably hundreds (I'll wear a pedometre next year to get a slightly more accurate reading)
of pre-made sandwiches consumed: 5
of pints of micro brew consumed: I lost count
of party invites received: 10, five for saturday night alone
of bags I had on the way down: 2
of bags I needed to get home: 4
How much Delta now charges for a second piece of luggage: $50
