Vancouver to Start

Looks like this is where we will start.

So it has been decided recently that we will be starting from Vancouver. This is perhaps a shame, because I would really like to start at Victoria, to say I have been on Vancouver Island. However, that is just the reality of things; an additional week touring the island would really hurt by the time we tackle Newfoundland near autumn.

The main reason why this was decided (over St. John's) was because of the weather differences. It is a lot warmer in May on the west coast than it is in Newfoundland. However, I do have a concern; if we do this, we will be tackling the Mountains in May-June, when they are still quite chilly. Also, many of the lakes will be frozen still, which will me a major dissapointment.

However, it is probably better to tackle the mountains when we are in good shape, rather than when we have been biking for 3 months!

What do the outdoors people think?

I'm envious of the fact that you have this opportunity and dilema of where to start on what sounds like will be an adventure of a lifetime. I do agree it would be best to start in Vancouver, at the peak of your energy level and excitement, and who knows, things may warm up a lot sooner than you think, since winter seems to be starting now and it's only end of Ocotber.
